|  | Monica Fitzgerald, Ph.D.  Monica Fitzgerald, Ph.D. is a faculty member at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC), Medical University of South Carolina. She received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia and completed a two-year NIMH post-doctoral research fellowship at the NCVC. Dr. Fitzgerald's research focuses on the impact of maltreatment and trauma exposure on children's psychosocial and emotional adjustment and the dissemination of evidence-based, trauma-focused interventions into community-based settings. Dr. Fitzgerald is one of the core faculty and Project Coordinator for Project BEST (Bringing Empirically Supported Treatment to South Carolina's Children and Families), a large scale implementation project of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (TF-CBT) in the state of South Carolina. Project BEST is funded by the Duke Endowment Foundation and its long-term goal is to ensure that all South Carolina children and their families, who are identified as having experienced abuse and resulting trauma, receive appropriate, empirically supported mental health assessment and psychosocial treatment services. Dr. Fitzgerald also provides trauma-focused treatment to adults, children and families at the NCVC.
