Leo Bonilha Laboratory

My lab is devoted to the understanding of why epilepsy occurs, and why seizures can be very difficult to control in some people in spite of medication or surgery. We also investigate how the brain creates language and why neurological problems can affect the ability to understand and produce speech. The main tool used in my lab is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with a focus on diffusion imaging and brain connectivity. I collaborate with the Center for Biomedical Imaging at MUSC, and we explore new forms of analyzing the structure and connections of the brain as it relates to epilepsy and language.
