Didactics & Conferences
Neurology Resident Core Curriculum
The core curriculum consists of two required noon conferences per week, which take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. The curriculum covers a wide variety of basic science and clinical topics, with content selected according to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology’s content outline for the board examination. Lectures are given by faculty members from various departments within the University on an 18- to 24-month cycle. Many of these lectures are recorded and are available on-line for individual study.
Morning Report
Scheduled for Wednesday mornings at 7:20 a.m. This weekly session consists of a resident-led discussion of an interesting case. The discussion is facilitated by an attending physician, with epilepsy, stroke, general neurology, and pediatric neurology attendings all taking part on a rotating basis. The case is selected in advance so as to align with the attending’s expertise, thus assuring a diverse mixture of cases and a lively discussion.
Clinical Neurophysiology Conference
Scheduled for Thursday mornings 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This is a weekly lecture series delivered by faculty. Three of every four weeks are devoted to neurophysiology, while the fourth week is devoted to a movement disorders video conference. Topics covered include the neurophysiology of EEG, NCV/EMG, sleep, evoked potentials, and intraoperative monitoring. Later in the year, the conference shifts to a case-based format; actual studies are presented and the relevant literature is reviewed.
Neuroscience Grand Rounds
Scheduled for Thursdays 11:00 to 12:00. Speakers include attending faculty, as well as guest speakers. Divisions participating in this endeavor include Adult Neurology, Pediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Basic Neurosciences.
