MUSC Neurology

Pediatric Neurology Residency Program

During the PGY3 year, the resident will participate in the adult neurology junior resident night float pool.  See Adult Neurology website for details.

PGY4 and PGY5

During the PGY4 and PGY5 years, the resident takes home call Monday – Friday 24 hours/day and every other weekend while on the Inpatient Child Neurology service (i.e. 4 months during the PGY-4 year and 2 months during the PGY-5 year).  Overnight, child neurology consults are the responsibility of the adult neurology night float.  Once the covering resident has evaluated the patient, he/she calls the child neurology resident to discuss the plan of care.  The on-call resident also receives calls from patient families.

In addition, the PGY4 and PGY5 will take home call for two weekends per month during their Outpatient Pediatric Neurology blocks (i.e. two weekends per month for 4 months in the PGY4 year and for 2 months in the PGY5 year).

There are no call obligations during the other rotations.

At night, there is always attending backup available if a resident needs assistance, and our attendings encourage residents to call with any questions.
