In January 2014, MUSC Health distributed “Charting the Future of Care: Year in Review 2013” to selected physicians and medical leaders in the southeast. It includes new stories as well as updates on stories that appeared in issues of Progressnotes, the quarterly medical magazine of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC); on MUSC’s Office of Public Relations’ online News Center; or in The Catalyst, the MUSC campus newspaper.
“Charting the Future of Care” is divided into four sections—Quality-Driven Care, Clinical Innovation, Telehealth, and Research—and highlights the therapies and technologies used by MUSC Health to treat the region’s most complex cases.
Today’s health care institutions are buffeted by an array of forces, said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., executive director and chief executive officer of MUSC Medical Center, in the report’s opening letter. “The spirit of collaboration among the members of our health care team, their dedication to continuously improving patient safety and quality, our commitment to offering the most innovative care and fostering research, and leadership in transforming the delivery of care through robust telehealth programs, all ensure that MUSC Health, the clinical enterprise of the Medical University of South Carolina, will not only navigate today’s challenges, but continue to meet the needs of the region’s patients far into the future,” Cawley said.
