MUSC Student Leadership
Congratulations to Debbie Bryant for being selected for the MUSC Student Leadership Society! Debbie is graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing Master of Science in Nursing degree program and this May, will be among the first four graduates of the recently initiated Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program.
Debbie’s interest is to impact the delivery of cancer educational resources in rural areas using community-based participatory research practices. Through her community outreach, research, and publications, she is already making a difference and is a leader in the broadest context of health care. As the Assistant Director of Cancer Prevention, Control, and Outreach for Hollings Cancer Center, Debbie is directly responsible for safe and effective cancer prevention, screening, and follow-up care ensuring that practice standards are met. She has extensive experience designing and implementing programs to reach underserved populations.
Her career in nursing and her career trajectory exemplify the characteristics of servant leadership. Her academic and career decisions reflect her character, integrity, and spirit of giving. On campus, Debbie has made contributions to the College of Nursing and the broader MUSC community. She has most recently participated in the College of Nursing Diversity Task Force and has worked to link the Tri-County Black Nurses Association with the Colleges’ desire to recruit, retain, and graduate minority students for entry into practice and nurses seeking advanced degrees.
Debbie, along with the Hispanic Health Initiative Scholars Program, which received the Outstanding Student Organization Award from MUSC Gives Back were recognized at the MUSC Student Leadership and Service Banquet on April 13.
