"MUSC Nurses Change Lives"

Message From the Diversity Director

I am a proud graduate of the MUSC College of Nursings masters degree program and I have returned to the College to join the faculty after receiving my PhD degree. In thinking about diversity and multiculturalism, one of my favorites pearls of wisdom is from Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, who said,.

"And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

To this end, I believe that diversity is not defined exclusively by ethnicity or gender but also encompasses a wide variety of other factors and characteristics, including (but not limited to) age, sexual orientation, religion, veterans status, disabilities, and national origin or ancestry.

At the MUSC College of Nursing we have a Multicultural Task Force composed of faculty, students and staff who have been charged with enhancing the cultural climate of the College and promoting access, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our College

We are promoting access and inclusion by advocating non-traditional recruitment strategies and by developing retention programs to enhance student matriculation. We promote equity and respect for all students by creating a climate of caring within the institution and ensuring that resources are accessible to all. Thank you for visiting our web page and we look forwarding to hearing from you.
