Dr. Teresa W. Atz is an Assistant Professor for the College of Nursing. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salem State College in Massachusetts, a Masters Degree in Nursing with a specialty in Nursing Education from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. in Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her nursing career began at Boston Children’s Hospital where she developed a specialty in pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Atz began her career at MUSC as a research nurse for pediatric cardiology at MUSC Children’s Hospital working with the NIH/NHLBI’s Pediatric Heart Network. She was a unit educator for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Step Down Unit and Same Day Observation Unit and has held many adjunct positions in the undergraduate program at MUSC.
Dr. Atz’s area of research interest focuses on parents of pediatric research participants, specifically their transition experiences after the conclusion of their child’s clinical trial. She has also developed medical-surgical and pediatric simulations along with Dr. Nancy Duffy for the Healthcare Simulation South Carolina.
