Brian Conner is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Undergraduate Program at MUSC and is the College of Nursing Program Coordinator for the Veterans Affairs Nursing Academy partnership. He is a Certified Nurse Educator and received a Ph.D. in Nursing from MUSC in May 2011. He also received a Masters of Science degree in Nursing with a specialty in Health Care Education and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix. His nursing career began in 1983 after receiving an Associate Degree in Nursing from Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Prior to joining MUSC Dr. Conner taught Nursing Leadership and Management and Critical Care Nursing in an undergraduate degree program for Lander University. Over the span of his nursing career, Dr. Conner has had the good fortune to serve in a number of different leadership and management positions including Director of Critical Care, Nursing Supervisor, Administrator of a multi-physician pediatric practice, Director of Quality Improvement and Community Outreach, and Nursing Consultant.
Dr. Conner’s area of research interest focuses on patient safety and clinical quality improvement in the acute care setting. Specifically, Dr. Conner is most interested in translating evidence into clinical practice. He is currently studying the effectiveness of interventions to reduce or prevent hospital-acquired, catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Additionally, Dr. Conner serves as the College of Nursing liaison for the MUHA Nurse Alliance Research Council and the program mentor for the Clinical Nurse Scholar Fellowship.
