What was the major influence in choosing nursing as a career?
When I was growing up my parents and grandmother encouraged me to go into Nursing. I was one of the first females in my family to attend college and they felt that Nursing was a great profession and one that would fit my personality!
What is the best piece of advice anyone ever gave you, professional or personal?
I was applying for a program in the Navy to compete for a slot where your Masters would be paid for and you would receive your salary while in school. I did not think I had a good enough package to submit and compete with others.
My boss at the time really pushed me to submit my package and reminded me that if I did not try I would not even have a chance-“let them tell you no” was his mantra. I ended up submitting and was selected which ended up being one of the best decisions I have made-it led me to be a FNP. So, I have taken away a lesson of not being afraid, to take a risk when I think it may be a long shot and to always try.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
This is a tough one, I truly love what I do! So, I guess I would say I would like to attempt being a Veterinarian…but only with pets that are well.
What sound or noise do you love?
The sound of a toddler or child’s belly laugh, and puppies!
