The Partnership Readiness for Community-Based Research (CBPR) Toolkit was developed by MUSC academic and community co-investigators in response to an investigation of parternship readiness to conduct CBPR. Through a participatory research process, the teams reached consensus on the major dimensions and key indicators of partnership readiness and the toolkit was subsequently developed using qualitative research methods and refined with two academic-community working groups. The 75-page toolkit is formatted to allow for individual assessments by each partner as well as team discussions on the multiple dimensions of readiness, and following assessment and discussion, teams are guided toward action plans to optimize their capacity to conduct research together. The goal of the toolkit is to foster a firm foundation for the partnership to conduct CBPR and to achieve desirable health outcomes.
