She received her Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of North Carolina-Asheville, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Carolina University, her Master of Science and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is Board Certified by the National Certification Corporation as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, a member of Sigma Theta Tau, past president of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, past president and current executive director of the Carolina's Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. She is currently Chair of the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, secretary/treasurer of the National Certification Corporation, and Liaison to the Perinatal Executive board for the American Academy of Pediatrics. She recently led the first Neonatal Nursing Delegation to China. Dr. Bissinger has taught graduate education in Neonatal nursing and worked to develop one of the first full online programs in the country. She serves on numerous academic, corporate and national boards representing neonatal nursing. She is a national speaker presenting information on both her research and other topics in Neonatal Nursing. She has numerous publications and poster presentations. She has received many awards, including the Distinguished Leadership in Neonatal Nursing Award and the South Carolina League of Nursing Excellence Award. Dr. Bissinger's clinical and research interests involve the study of Secondary Surfactant Dysfunction and Deficiency and Pain in Neonates. She is also very involved in process improvement in the NICU. |
