Dr. Sharon Bond is a practicing Certified Nurse Midwife and Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina. She received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from the State University of New York, her certification in Nurse Midwifery, Master of Science degree in Nursing and her Doctorate of Philosophy from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, the American Nurses Association, the South Carolina Nurses Association, the American Public Health Association and an Associate Fellow in the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. She formerly practiced as a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE). She serves as an educational consultant for Merck Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Bond provides care for prenatal and gynecologic patients through MUSC Women’s Health. She specializes in the care and management of women with abnormal Pap tests and has conducted research and published with academic colleagues. She taught in the Nurse Midwifery education program for several years until its suspension in 2009. She currently teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) education program and has presented continuing education programs for health care professionals in women’s health. Her clinical and research interests concern the care of women with abnormal Pap tests, Human Papillomavirus infection, and the new HPV vaccines. She has investigated women’s participation in follow up care for abnormal Pap tests.

Dr. Bond received the South Carolina Nurse’s Association Palmetto Gold Award in 2003 for excellence in practice and commitment to the profession.
