Donna Gill, DNP, FNP-C, is an Instructor in the College of Nursing. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Florida International University; a Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) degree from Case Western Reserve University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Dr. Gill is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified Advanced Forensic Nurse. Her major areas of research and practice are child abuse with expertise in abusive head trauma and injury/violence prevention.
Dr. Gill has received a number of awards in her career including the North Carolina Nurse Practitioner of the Year, a special recognition from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is an active member of the American Academy of Forensic Science, the American Academy of Forensic Examiners, International Association of Forensic Nursing, and currently provides consultation services to the Charleston County Coroners Office in Charleston, SC. Dr. Gill also provides expert witness testimony regarding child abuse and related issues related to the welfare of children.
Prior to moving to Charleston, in 2001 Dr. Gill opened Foothills Family Health Care in Forest City, NC with a mission to provide care to lower income patients. Foothills quickly became a safe haven for infants and also an avenue for women and children involved in Domestic Violence to obtain help. In 2002 Dr. Gill co-founded St. Gabriel’s Wellness Clinic in Rutherfordton, NC, which provided free care to indigent patients.
While in North Carolina, Dr. Gill served as Medical Consultant to the Child Fatality Task Force and Community Child Protection Team. She also worked with the North Carolina State Mortality Operations Response Team (SMORT) team that developed a mass fatality plan for the State of North Carolina, and was appointed as one of three Medical Examiners for Rutherford County in North Carolina, being the only female non-physician appointee in the county’s history. |
