She received her diploma from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Arizona State University. Dr. Kennedy earned a Master of Science degree in psychiatric/mental health Nursing from Arizona State University at which time she also completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Her doctorate in education is from Capella University with a specialization in online instructional design. She also holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a certificate as a Problem-based Learning Tutor from Southern Illinois University Medical School. She is Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Dr. Kennedy has taught in undergraduate, graduate and most recently an online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program where she was instrumental in curriculum development and providing instructional design guidance for the new online DNP program. She has extensive online teaching experience. Dr. Kennedy received an award as the Outstanding Graduate Nursing Faculty for the University of Phoenix. Her research interests include evaluating clinical and learner-focused educational outcomes utilizing authentic tools and strategies.
