Dr. Shannon Smith is an Instructor in the College of Nursings Accelerated Bachelor of Science Program. She teaches Principles of Pathophysiology and Leadership & Management in Nursing. Dr. Smith received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of South Carolina. She is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health and is certified in Gastroenterology Nursing.
Dr. Smith was previously an educator in the nursing department of a local community college and has held adjunct faculty roles with local schools of nursing since 2001. She has eight years experience in nursing case management and has been a part of the MUSC family for over twenty years. She has been a Clinical Nurse Leader in the Surgical Stepdown and Digestive Disease units at MUSC.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, and a Lifetime Member of the College of Nursings Alumni Association. She was the recipient of the United States Department of Commerce Scholarship awarded through the South Carolina Nurses Foundation (2009, 2010). Dr. Smith also received the Outstanding Abstract Award from the South Carolina Public Health Association in 2010. Her interests include Health Literacy, Readmission Prevention, and Chronic Disease Management.
