Mardi Long is the Director of Student and Alumni Relations for the College of Nursing. She is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and continues to have family ties in Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Speech from Butler University and her Master of Education for the University of South Carolina with a specialty in Student Personnel Services. Since 1982, she has worked with students at colleges and universities, assisting them as they work toward their academic and career goals.
In 1993, Mardi began working at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing as the Student Recruiter, then Director of Student Services. In 1999, she transitioned to a role that allows her to work with students throughout their academic program and beyond. As Director of Student and Alumni Relations, she is responsible for planning and implementing programs and activities that focus on student and alumni satisfaction and success. Some of her responsibilities include events such as New Student Orientation, the Stethoscope Ceremony, Convocation, Graduation, and Alumni Weekend. She is also responsible for administering the College of Nursing scholarship program for students.

"The most enjoyable part of my job," says Mardi, "is including so many interesting and diverse people in my life. Our students and alumni have such a variety of interests and abilities. It is rewarding to watch them grow and succeed in their chosen profession."

Spotlight

Teresa Kelechi Named New Department Chair

Effective November 1, Teresa Kelechi will assume the role of Department Chair. Employed at MUSC for 22 years, Teresa joined the College of Nursing faculty in 2001. She is a board certified gerontological clinical nurse specialist and a certified wound care nurse. Teresa takes over the reins of Department Chair from Elizabeth Erkel who will retire at the end of the year.
