The courses offered vary according to need and available funds. The course is free to MUSC students and available at a resonable price for non MUSC students. For all faculty, staff and other community members who wish to take the intermediate course, please fill out and return the registration form. For more information, please contact Carol Whelan.
HHI Scholars The MUSC College of Nursing, Hispanic Health Initiatives Scholars Program is designed to build cultural competency, increase sensitivity to community needs, improve the ability to tailor care, and provide the leadership skills necessary for our graduates to address the social determinants of health in order to help eliminate health disparities. These scholars are selected in their second semester of the accelerated BSN program. During their Community course, the students receive additional opportunities to focus on cultural effectiveness, immigrant health issues and social justice. Such opportunities include on-campus seminars with community members and clinical activities in neighborhoods with diverse populations. To participate in this program students must apply and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be selected among the pool of applicants. HHI staff will come to one of the second semester courses and give a brief overview of the program and hand out applications to those interested in participating. Please contact Anna Tecklenburg if you have any specific questions about this program.
Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce The HHI faculty works with other faculty and staff in the College of Nursing to promote recruitment and retention of minority students. Examples of this are health career programs at local public schools, mentoring incoming students and encouraging involvement in HHI activities. En EspaƱol |
