MUSC Foundation Scholarships

Marguerite Andell Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing program of study. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Maude E. Callen Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in the College of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery, or Gerontological Nursing tracks of study. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Carmen's Cardinal Scholarship - The scholarship is to support those students who are underrepresented in the field and who, upon graduation, will be able to address the growing needs of the Hispanic population.  The goal of this scholarship is to enhance diversity among nursing students.

Jean O. Cashion Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing program of study. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Dorothy Johnson Crews Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program with a 3.0 GPA or better, has financial need, and is based on availability of funds. Preference is given to Newberry County residents.

Ted and Joan Halkyard Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.  The goal of this scholarship is to recruit and enroll minority students in the MUSC College of Nursing.

Virginia Harper Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing program of study. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Betty C. Kelchner Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing program of study. The scholarship may be renewed each semester if the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA, has financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Margaret Ann Kerr Scholarship - This award is given to student in the Bachelor of Science of Nursing degree program who has completed at least one semester of course work with a 3.0 GPA or better. The student should have an interest in student activities, such as the Student Nurses Association, and an interest in clinical nursing. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Betty Murray Kinard Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 or better GPA and enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Marianna Stuart Mason Scholarship - This award is given to a "truly empathetic, caring, and dedicated nurse." The recipient may be an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in Master of Science in Nursing track that is consistent with a commitment to improving maternal-child health. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Marvin and Cleo McAlhaney Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better, financial need, and enrolled in any College of Nursing degree program. Preference is given to students that residents of Upper Dorchester County, but the award may be given at the discretion of the College of Nursing.

Annie M.K. Norton Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing degree program. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Reba Carter O'Keeffe Scholarship -This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing degree program. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds. Preference is given to a resident of Colleton County, but the award may be given at the discretion of the College of Nursing.

Norma Steele Oliver Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in the College of Nursing baccalaureate program. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Barbara Sutton Pace Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning nursing student with a 3.0 GPA or better, financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Anthony Pirraglia Memorial Scholarship - This award is in honor of an MUSC nurse and the scholarship is awarded by MUHA Clinical Services. Only MUHA employees enrolled in a College of Nursing degree program are eligible for this scholarship. For more information, please call 843-792-7545.

Nina Smith Scholarship -This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better and enrolled in any College of Nursing degree program. This award is designated for single parents who have custody of and are supporting a minor child or children. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

Stephen and Ruth P. Stewart Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student in the PhD degree program based on availability of funds. Preference is given to residents of South Carolina.

The Sunset Rotary Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning Nursing student who is a resident of Beaufort County. The recipient must have financial need and is based on availability of funds.

J. W. Thurmond Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better, financial need and is based on availability of funds.  The student may be enrolled in any academic program, but must be a resident of South Carolina.

Samuel Steinburg Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better. The recipient should be a graduate of Trident Technical College located in Charleston, SC. The Steinburg's wish this annual gift will impact a nursing student's life in a positive manner.
 
Jean P. Wilson Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning student with a 3.0 GPA or better in any College of Nursing degree program. The goal of this award is to recognize academic excellence.

Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship - This award is given to an incoming or returning female student in any College of Nursing degree program. The student must be a resident of Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, or Florida and a Christian.

Spotlight

Teresa Kelechi Named New Department Chair

Effective November 1, Teresa Kelechi will assume the role of Department Chair. Employed at MUSC for 22 years, Teresa joined the College of Nursing faculty in 2001. She is a board certified gerontological clinical nurse specialist and a certified wound care nurse. Teresa takes over the reins of Department Chair from Elizabeth Erkel who will retire at the end of the year.
