Screening has little impact on IPV if health care providers do not provide appropriate referrals and information about community resources following a patient's disclosure of IPV. Clinical staff members should meet with personnel from community resources to increase familiarity with resources and more effectively make referrals. Strong relationships between healthcare offices and community services are especially important in areas lacking on-site violence support.
