First DNP Class Graduates
Congratulations to the inaugural class of Post-MSN students who graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing with their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) on May 20, 2011: Deborah Bryant (employed by the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center), Katherine Chike-Harris (employed by the Franklin C. Fetter Clinic), Terri Fowler (employed by the McLeod Regional Medical Center), and Shannon Johnson (employed by the Tri-County Technical College).

The DNP program, which began in fall 2009, is a practicefocused doctoral program that addresses the most contemporary aspects of expert clinical practice and in depth knowledge and experience in leadership, health systems design and evaluation, evidence-based practice, health policy, and applied research.

Terri Fowler states, “I have learned that as a DNP prepared APN, I can make a difference in health care and patient outcomes. I have learned how to move research to the bedside and practice at the highest level of nursing. I look forward to continuing my career as a nurse practitioner with the knowledge and skills that the DNP program has given me.”
