Managed Desktop Team

Summary

The managed desktop team is responsible for the management, planning, development, implementation and maintenance of MUSC’s 11,600+ managed workstations and related infrastructure, which includes operating system imaging, application packaging and deployment while following and maintaining desktop and application security standards, policies and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Application packaging, testing and deployment

  • Responsible for packaging and deploying 350+ applications to managed Windows XP/7/8 workstations using Microsoft Application Virtualization and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
  • Package and deploy applications to Macintosh computers
  • Utilize various scripting languages (PowerShell, VB, Winbatch) to address application issues
  • Monitor application deployment progress and react to issues
  • Troubleshoot and mitigate systemic application issues

Operating system imaging

  • Develop, support and maintain Windows XP and Windows 7 operating system images for the 11,600+ LYNX managed desktops
  • Provide Tier 3 support for operating system and application issues
  • Monitor, research, troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues

Infrastructure administration and support

  • Ensure correct installation, configuration, use and maintenance of the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager platform
  • Administer, support and maintain Microsoft Application Virtualization infrastructure
  • Oversight of group policy including review of existing policies and proposed changes
  • Monitor Microsoft SCCM and App-V infrastructure health and mitigate identified problems
  • Create and maintain extensive documentation of all processes, policies and infrastructure
  • Ensure SCCM client health across 15,000+ workstation and servers (managed and unmanaged)

Non-Windows device management

  • Mac, Unix and Linux hardware/software inventory collection and reporting
