In a partnership with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) , OQUIN now offers a free, evidence-based service that allows you to refer your SC patients for help in quitting tobacco.
You may refer patients without a charge to you or to the patient for one-on-one telephone cessation counseling and free support materials. The South Carolina Tobacco Quitline is administered by SC DHEC and operated for the state by Alere Wellbeing . Tobacco users may call the Quitline directly at the toll free number 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669), seven days a week between 8:00am until 3:00am, or they can be referred by their primary care.
Currently, registered tobacco users with no health insurance receive free NRT patch or gum from the Quitline. Those with Medicare or Medicaid are referred to their provider for the medications covered under each plan while they receive the free Quitline counseling. Patients who register and have private health insurance may also receive free counseling, but are referred back to their health plan for medication coverage, if applicable.
