Started in 1937 with only a handful of residents MUSC's Pediatric residency program has turned into a flourishing program of 14 categorical residents per year, 4 internal medicine pediatrics residents per year, 2 primary care track residents per year, and 1 child neurology pediatrics resident per year.
MUSC Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in the area and the largest referral center in the region. We are made up of 31 pediatric subspecialties with faculty that staff a top 20 nationally-ranked pediatric heart program, and top 10 nationally ranked neonatal, and pediatric emergency services.
Our large referral base benefits from state-of-the-art care provided in our 185 bed facility. In-turn, our residents benefit from the cultural, economic, and medical diversity of this unique patient group. With 100,000 annual clinic visits and over 5,000 in-patient admissions, we see the spectrum from the well-child to those rare diseases that present a once in a lifetime learning opportunity.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings place the MUSC Children’s Hospital heart program among the top 20 in the country. Six MUSC Children’s Hospital divisions are honored in the rankings:
