Pediatric Primary Care Residency

PCP Residents

The Pediatric Primary Care Residency (PCR) at MUSC began in 2011 with the goal of preparing our residents to care for children in the office setting. This program builds on the successful categorical residency program by providing nine months of additional training in community settings over the 2nd and 3rd years of residency. The two clinical sites are both primary care medical homes for the underserved. During years 2 and 3 of residency, the PCR residents spend 6 weeks per year at MUSC Children’s Care Northwoods, a Medicaid Medical Home in North Charleston, SC. This clinic serves the large Spanish-speaking population of our area, with 65% of their patients being Latino. Several of the pediatricians at this site also speak Spanish and there are also full-time interpreters who are integral to helping families navigate healthcare and services. Our PCR residents will be encouraged to participate in some Spanish language education in preparation for this experience. For more information about MUSC Children’s Care Clinics, please visit

During years 2 and 3 of residency, the PCR residents spend 3 months per year at Georgetown Pediatric Center, a rural health clinic in Georgetown, SC, about an hour north of Charleston. Housing in Georgetown will be provided for PCR residents during their rotations there. For more information about Georgetown Pediatrics:
