Overview

Program for Human Microbiome Research is a community of investigators at Medical University of South Carolina with interests in the role of the community of microorganisms in human health.  As of late 2015 MUSC has developed key resources to enable on site implementation of complete microbiome research pipeline. These resources include

  • Consulting, research development and mentorship services
  • Clinical research support
  • Laboratory support
  • Gnotobiotic animal facility
  • Specialized cores (metabolomics, lipidomics, etc.)
  • High-throughput technology (sequencing, proteomics, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry)
  • Bioinformatics
  • Data analysis and integration

Please email microbiome@musc.edu to learn more about how to utilize these resources in your research.

Currently PHMR is focused on launching pilot studies to test drive the infrastructure for microbiome research on problems. The short term goal of the program is to gain momentum for innovative precision medicine research based on microbiomic and other high-throughput patient characteristics. To learn more about these developments please look for announcements on the Events page of this website.
