Department of Public Health Sciences
1st annual mentor award
MUSC Department of Public Health Sciences Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award
The annual MUSC Department of Public Health Sciences Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award honors a faculty member who has shown outstanding commitment to mentoring, advising and generally supporting graduate students. Such efforts often go unnoticed – but not unappreciated. The award is meant to recognize the considerable efforts and accomplishments of faculty who consistently serve as effective mentors. Designed to identify faculty who embody both the letter and spirit of mentoring, these awards are important examples of the department’s continuing efforts to cultivate a culture of mentoring.
All students and faculty are invited to nominate candidates to receive this unique honor. Awards will be presented annually to a nominated faculty member judged by the selection committee to be a prime example of what it means to truly serve as a mentor. In addition to honoring individual faculty members, it is our hope that these mentors will serve as models for the entire Faculty.
Any member of the Department of Public Health Sciences faculty may be nominated so long as they are a member of the College of Graduate Studies and have served as a chair, co-chair or committee member with significant involvement for a M.S. or Ph.D. candidate within the past five years. Nominations will be accepted from students, faculty, or self-nominations, but nominees must have an outstanding record of mentoring graduate students. All nomination submissions will be kept strictly confidential.
