Marvella E. Ford, Ph.D., has merged her interests in population-based research and public health to create programs that will guide MUSC's research direction in improving patient education, prevention and community outreach efforts among South Carolina communities. Ford joined MUSC in 2006 as an associate professor of biostatistics and epidemiology and associate director of Cancer Disparities at Hollings Cancer Center.

Anne Love had cataracts in both eyes. She had the cataract in the right eye removed in a standard procedure. A month later Dr. George O. Waring IV, medical director of Magill Vision Center and Director of Refractive Surgery at MUSC Storm Eye Institute, removed the cataract from her left eye using the Catalys Precision Laser System.
