Dr. Kathleen Brady hopes therapists will take advantage of research showing how to best treat PTSD sufferers who also have substance abuse issues. Close to half of those with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) also suffer from substance use disorders.

Brady, MD, PhD - Distinguished University Professor Associate Provost, Clinical and Translational Science Director, South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SCTR) Dr. Brady is a prominent leader in the substance abuse field at a national and international level, Brady is well known for her research in the areas of drug and alcohol dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder and medication development.

On the surface, crocodiles in the renowned Kruger National Park and the oil spill along America's Gulf Coast may not seem to have much in common. Unless you're MUSC researcher Louis J. Guillette, Jr., Ph.D., who's involved in studies in both regions to figure how chemicals and contaminants interact with the environment in ways that impact human health. Research is confirming just how dramatic and far reaching these impacts can be. Retired U.S. Navy Supply Corps Capt. Robert H. Peiffer, administrative manager in the MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, followed the traditional military way of life. He grew up in a military household and knew there was never a question that he'd follow in his family's footsteps.
