        Edgar J. Weiss, MD

       Use of Psychopharmacological Agents in Aging Populations
     
BIO

Dr. Weiss is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).  In addition, he is the Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program and the Attending Psychiatrist on the Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit.  He also has an outpatient geriatric psychiatry clinic and makes regular rounds at three area nursing homes.  He is on the Board of Directors for the State Alzheimer’s Association and has agreed to lead the local advisory board for the Alzheimer’s Association. 

Dr. Weiss is Board Certified in General Psychiatry and has passed the exams for Added Qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry.  He attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and did an internal medicine internship at the Dallas VA Hospital and a psychiatric residency at the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT.

He is married to Dorothy who is a nurse at MUSC and has an eleven year old daughter, Shoshana.  He also has an older son and daughter living out of state.

   
OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
       At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
       
  1. Discuss recent findings regarding adverse events in the psychopharmacotherapy of aging populations
  2. Discuss recent findings regarding the use of psychotropic compounds in aging psychiatric patients
