     David J. Kolko, Ph.D.

  
SPEAKER BIO

David Kolko, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Pediatrics, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  At Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, he directs the Special Services Unit, a treatment research program for youth referred by the Juvenile Court.  He also consults to the Pittsburgh Child Advocacy Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is a fellow of Division 53 of the American Psychological Association.  During the past 25 years, Dr. Kolko has received federal and state grant funding directed towards the study and treatment of disruptive behavior disorders, childhood firesetting, juvenile sexual offending, child physical abuse, and adolescent depression.  He has published or written over 170 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and books, including Assessing and treating physically abused children and their families: A cognitive-behavioral approach (2002, Sage Publications, Thousand Oaks, CA) and, The Handbook on firesetting children and youth (2002, Academic Press.). His current work is devoted to dissemination and implementation research in public sector systems that serve children and youth, including primary care, child welfare, and juvenile justice. 

  
  
      OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
         At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
       

  1) Provide overview of intervention services for children with behavior problems in pediatric primary care setting

  2) Describe recent randomized clinical trials evaluating the outcomes of on-site clinical services vs. outside referral to a specialty provider

  3) Discuss future directions for delivering mental health services and conducting treatment research in the primary care practice
