SPEAKER BIO
  

DrPayne is a fourth year psychiatry resident in the General Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the Medical University of South Carolina.   Her research interests include the role of gender differences and hormones in substance disorders, the interplay of chronic pain disorders with comorbid psychiatric illness, and the misuse of prescription opiates.   Her career goals include completing a fellowship in addictions and incorporating a career in research with clinical practice.   She is currently conducting a study examining gender differences and the prevalence and correlates of prescription opioid use among inpatients admitted to a short-term primarily alcohol and drug detoxification unit.  Dr. Payne is co-mentored in the DART program by Dr. Sudie Back and Dr. Kathleen Brady.

  
  
  
  
      OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
         At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
        
       

1) Recognize increased prevalence of prescription opioid use, abuse and dependence
2) Name the most common substance use disorders in prescription opioid use & dependence
3) Increase understanding of the relationship between prescription opioid use, abuse and dependence and pain
