Program Objectives

This one-day seminar brings together some of the best scientific and legal minds in our state to present the latest information available on substance abuse and related mental health problems and how the legal system deals with them. Our goal is to provide the attendees with information to help both personally and professionally in dealing with the difficult issues of alcohol and drug abuse. The planning committee reviewed comments from participants attending over the past years and looked at issues that are prominent across our country today to help decide the topics for this year’s seminar. At the completion of the conference participants will be able to:

  • Understand the brain changes that occur in addiction and how these influence motivation and behavior
  • Understand the primary elements the brain needs to begin and maintain the recovery process
  • Recognize the factors that contribute to adolescent substance abuse
  • Identify resources available to lawyers regarding substance use, stress and ethics
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of a variety of addictions and disorders
