Current Perspectives on the Etiology of Eating Disorders

  At the completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

1)

Be familiar with the major risk factors identified for AN and BN along a biopsychosocial continuum.

2)

Understand the role of the "3 P's" (predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors) in the etiology of the eating disorders.

3)

Be familiar with how genetic/biological factors and psychosocial/environmental factors interact to produce eating disorders and other psychiatric disorders.
4)Be able to identify risk factors that first appear in childhood and adolescence, including childhood abuse, which have important relevance for prevention efforts.
