At the end of this program, participants will be able to: - (George) Discuss how one can focally stimulate discrete brain regions involved in mood regulation or fear or anxiety circuits.
- (George) Recognize the brain stimulation methods that are FDA approved – ECT, VNS, TMS, and those that are still investigational.
- (George) Know that DBS was recently FDA approved for compassionate use in OCD.
- (Uhde) Describe the symptoms and course of illness of panic disorder patients with sleep panic attacks
- (Uhde) Describe the phenomenology of sleep paralysis
- (Uhde) Review the differential diagnosis of fearful arousals from sleep
- (Brawman-Mintzer) List the challenge associated with the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
- (Brawman-Mintzer) Cite current research approaches in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
- (Brawman-Mintzer) Discuss newly presented data on the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
- (Kruesi) Recognize anxiety disorders in children and adolescents

| Statement of Purpose |
This conference will provide in-depth reviews of best-practice guidelines in the care of patients presenting in real-world psychiatric and primary care service settings. The speakers will share their clinical expertise to provide a better understanding of the neurobiology of anxiety disorders, describe the mechanisms of action of some of new psychopharmacologic agents and new uses for older agents, explain existing unmet needs and the benefits of emerging therapies for patients with anxiety disorders, and suggest approaches and modifications to existing diagnostic and treatment strategies in order to improve patient outcomes. back to top |
