SPEAKER BIO

Kevin M. Gray, M.D., Associate Professor in the Youth Division of the MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, is a board certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with research and clinical interest in adolescent substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.  He was one of only five child and adolescent psychiatrists nationally to receive the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry/National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Physician Scientist in Substance Abuse K12 Award, with training in 2005-2009.  Since completing K12 training, he has pursued independent and collaborative NIDA-funded research focused on understanding and treating cannabis and nicotine dependence in adolescents and adults.  He also maintains active clinical practice in Youth Division clinical programs.

  
      OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
       At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
       

1.  Describe adolescent smoking epidemiology in the United States.
2.  Identify evidence-based psychosocial treatments for adolescent smoking cessation.
3.  Discuss the current state of knowledge on medication safety/efficacy for adolescent smoking cessation.
