SPEAKER BIO

Dr. Mark W. Mahowald is the former-Director of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center and Professor of Neurology at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Visiting Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Stanford.. His primary interest is in education of medical students, residents, and fellows, with particular reference to promoting the concept of a truly multidisciplinary sleep medicine program. Clinical research interests include parasomnias, state dissociation, and forensic sleep medicine, emphasizing the importance of close collaboration among clinicians, basic neuroscientists, and the legal profession.

  
      OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                                                               
       At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
       

1.  State that most common parasomnias represent the admixture of states of being.
2.  List indications for clinical and sleep laboratory evaluation of parasomnias.
3.  Discuss how state dissociation may explain numerous neurologic and psychiatric symptoms.
