Biographical Sketch

Dr. Howard C. Becker received his B.S. degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Rutgers University where he concentrated on Bio-psychology.  Dr. Becker also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at MUSC.  He holds a dual appointment in the Department of Neurosciences and is also a Research Career Scientist at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.  Dr. Becker is involved in numerous professional societies, including Research Society on Alcoholism, Society for Neuroscience, Neurobehavioral Teratology Society, and the South Carolina Chapter of Society for Neuroscience.

• Neuro-psychopharmacology of alcohol and other drugs of abuse
• Mechanisms underlying initial sensitivity to CNS drug effects, as well as neuroadaptive changes that result from chronic drug exposure (tolerance and dependence)
