Dr. Hilary Bernstein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where she has been on faculty since 1989. Dr. Bernstein received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology from Tulane University, a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of South Carolina and a Doctorate in Health Administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Bernstein has clinical expertise in individual psychotherapy, couples and marital therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and brief solution-oriented therapy. Some areas of special interest to her include mood disorders, depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship Issues, grief and loss, sleep disorders, quality of life and the de-stigmatization of mental illness.
Dr. Bernstein has an extensive background in research in the areas of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), depression and related disorders. She has numerous publications in areas of depression, mood disorders, ECT, treatment efficacy and quality of life.
