Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs (CDAP) in MUSC's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He earned a B.S. in Psychology/Philosophy from Sam Houston State University, and he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Cincinnati in the Clinical Health Psychology track. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Program at MUSC. Dr. Smith's research interests include psychopathology and treatment models of co-occurring anxiety and alcohol use disorders, gender issues in help-seeking, motivational interviewing and other brief interventions for substance use disorders, and psychological measurement. He is Director of CDAP’s outpatient clinic and of the Institute of Psychiatry’s Centralized Inpatient Programming Service.
