Biographical Sketch

Cynthia Cupit Swenson received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Florida State University in 1991 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in child clinical and pediatric psychology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Currently Dr. Swenson is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina and Associate Director of the Family Services Research Center (FSRC). She is Principal Investigator on a NIDA-funded randomized controlled trial evaluating the Multisystemic Therapy Building Stronger Families Model for co-occurring child maltreatment and parental substance abuse. In addition, she is conducting research on treatment for child abuse and neglect in multiple European countries and is involved with a community development and health project in a rural village in Ghana, West Africa. Dr. Swenson has published many journal articles, book chapters, and three books.
