Committed to advancing research in women’s health and promoting institutional interdisciplinary research, the Women’s Research Center at the Medical University of South Carolina represents a collaboration between the Clinical Neuroscience Division, the Department of Neurosciences, the Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs, and the Women Scholars Initiative.

Components of MUSC's Women's Research Center include:

Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH).
MUSC’s BIRCWH program supports the research career development of junior faculty members who have recently completed clinical training or postdoctoral fellowships, and who have mentorship and a solid plan for training in basic research, translational research, clinical research, and/or health services research relevant to women's health in the areas of mental health, addiction, aging or cognitive decline. BIRCWH is a K12 career development program co-funded by the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) and the NIHCD. It is one of only 26 such grants in the U.S.

Specialized Center of Research on Sex & Gender Factors Affecting Women's Health (SCOR).
MUSC is the site of a NIDA-funded SCOR, one of only 11 such Centers in the nation. The SCOR aims to integrate efforts in gender-related research in substance use disorders at MUSC, to build an infrastructure to encourage and support gender-based research growth, to attract early investigators to the area of patient-oriented research, particularly, in women's health issues, and to produce a regional education and training resource for research in women's health.

Women Scholars Initiative (WSI).
MUSC's success in research, teaching, and clinical care is strengthened by promoting a diverse and outstanding faculty.  The purpose of MUSC's WSI is to achieve this diversity through a proactive focus on gender equity in the recruitment, retention, and advancement (i.e., rank, tenure, and leadership) for women faculty across all missions of the university.
