SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

2012 SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM :

The MUSC DART program offers a summer research fellowship for students interested in learning more about research. The program is open to undergraduate, graduate, and medical students.  During the fellowship, students spend 10-12 weeks working full-time in their research mentor’s lab.  The goal of the DART Summer Fellowship Program is to introduce promising students to research, both basic science and clinical in nature, and afford them the opportunity to work closely with a research mentor and his/her investigative team.

Eligibility: Medical, Graduate & Undergraduate Students

Stipend amount:    $3,000

Duration:  10-12 weeks

Application Procedure:  Spots are limited and applications are competitive. Only a limited number of students will be able to participate each summer.

In order to apply, an applicant needs to submit the following to Dr. Book at booksw@musc.edu.

  • A copy of the applicant’s curriculum vita.  For ideas on how to prepare this please see the following link: http://medicine.osu.edu/students/life/career_advising/pages/cv.aspx
  • A brief statement (1 pg or less) of why the applicant is interested in spending the summer in research.  The applicant should also include a description of particular areas of interest to help us with mentor selection.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  February 1st

AWARD NOTICE:  February 15th

Mentor Responsibilities: Mentors are asked to provide their summer students with the following:  (1) A suitable work space; (2) Computer access; (3) Ability to attend weekly lab/clinical meetings; (4) Weekly individual meetings; (5) Assistance with preparing a poster or oral presentation at the end of the program; (6) Attending the student’s final presentation. The DART program will cover the cost of posters. We have only very limited statistical assistance available, however, so mentors need to prepare to assist students with data analysis.
