As part of the application process, each candidate must be interviewed by the faculty of the program. Interviewees also meet with one or more current interns. We have found that this important step in the selection process allows the applicant to be maximally informed about the internship and helps the selection committee choose interns who match well with the program.
Your interview day will begin at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC). The NCVC is located on the second floor of the Institute of Psychiatry South Building at 67 President Street.
Coffee will be provided beginning at 8:00 a.m. You will meet with one of our co-directors, who will give you general information about the internship’s goals and philosophy and also tell you a little bit about living in Charleston. You will also be provided with the finalized schedule for your visit and the people you will meet that day.
During your visit, you will meet individually with three faculty members. We will make every effort to arrange interviews with faculty members working in your interest area(s). In some cases, a particular faculty member that you would like to see may not be available on the day of your visit. When that happens, we will try to arrange at least a subsequent telephone interview with that person.
During lunch, you will have the opportunity to meet with one or more of our current interns. This will give you the chance to ask questions about any aspect of the program and about living in Charleston.
In the closing session, you will again meet with one of our co-directors, who will answer any remaining questions you have and review the selection process. At about 2:45 p.m, the interview day is concluded. Campus is about a 25-minute drive from the Charleston airport, so make your travel plans accordingly.
As you can see, the schedule for the day is full and we hope it will help you gain the information you need to prioritize your goals regarding internship training. We look forward to meeting you.
