|  | Joshua P. Smith, Ph.D.  Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs (CDAP) in MUSC's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Psychology with Academic Distinction from Sam Houston State University, and he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Cincinnati in the Clinical Health Psychology track. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Program at MUSC. Dr. Smith's research interests include psychopathology and treatment models of co-occurring anxiety and alcohol use disorders, gender issues in help-seeking, motivational interviewing and other brief interventions for substance use disorders, and psychological measurement. His clinical work represents a blend of his research interests, and includes program development as Coordinator of CDAP Clinical Specialty Projects. This work involves developing and integrating empirically-based treatments for substance use and co-occurring disorders into CDAP's extant substance use treatment programming.
