Research Development Mission

Alert investigators about funding opportunities
Educate investigators about grantsmanship issues and proposal development
Optimize success in preparing competitive proposals for research support, infrastructure and training grants
Increase awareness of MUSC research expertise and resources
Help communicate MUSC research strengths and achievements

Collaborative and Training Proposals

Help identify potential matching funds, complementary expertise, or potential collaborators
Assist in development of large trans-university or multi-institutional proposals, such as
  • Program project, center and training grants, shared instrumentation, and construction or renovation projects
Organize and complete supporting information, such as
  • Biographical sketches (publications and research support), resources and environment (institutional “boilerplate”), tables of key personnel other support or other relevant grants,  current and previous trainees, organizational charts and schematic diagrams, and “just-in-time” requirements

Funding Opportunities

Distribute weekly funding announcements providing information on recent grant, fellowships, and pilot projects
Perform customized searches based on investigator-provided key areas of interest
Provide access and instruction for individual use of web-based funding alert services
Clarify and confirm sponsor guidelines, deadlines, forms or special requirements
Publicize and coordinate opportunities with restrictions on eligibility or number of applicants

Research News

Publish Research INKlings, monthly online, newsletter highlighting research news, policy changes and funding trends

Retreats and Workshops

Provide grantsmanship workshops and individual consultation for new investigators with the NIH proposal preparation
Conduct interactive retreats providing investigators an opportunity to gain constructive criticism on a specific research concept or proposal
