Office of Research Development
Limited Submission
Overview
Many private foundations and other funding organizations restrict the number of proposals they will accept from an institution. MUSC has an established process to coordinate applications for these proposals. This process has been developed to ensure that multiple investigators do not apply for the same funding opportunity, rendering both applications ineligible by the sponsor.
The Office of Research Development (ORD) is responsible for coordinating the limited submission process, including announcing these opportunities through postings on its website, as well as directly to faculty via ORD research funding alerts. These announcements contain a brief description of the opportunity with a link to the sponsor’s site and internal application instructions and deadlines.
Internal Submission Procedures
Faculty members interested in a limited submissions opportunity should follow the instructions provided in the internal announcement for the respective opportunity. Faculty are responsible for reviewing and downloading all provided information, as well as visiting the sponsor’s website, before making the determination to be considered for nomination, and must adhere to all posted deadlines.
Review and Selection Process
An ad-hoc peer review panel evaluates the internal pre-proposals according to the program guidelines and criteria, and makes recommendations. The Associate Provost for Research makes final determinations. All applicants are notified of the decision by email, with copies to their department chair and respective grants coordinator in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
