Grantsmanship Workshop: Summer Series

Summer One on One Consultation Series with Dr. Israel Goldberg

The Office of Research Development (ORD) is pleased to offer a special summer Grantsmanship Workshop:  One on One Consultation Series with Dr. Israel Goldberg July 25 and 26. Members of the MUSC community will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Goldberg, president of Health Research Associates, individually or as a team, to receive feedback on your grant proposal. Regardless of whether you are in the early or advanced stage of your proposal, this is a valuable opportunity to receive independent, experienced feedback. This is also a useful avenue to help evaluate a summary statement and plan strategy for revising and resubmitting a proposal. Consultations with Dr. Goldberg have received an overwhelmingly positive response from MUSC faculty.

“The individual session is very valuable… I was impressed by the fact that Dr. Goldberg actually read through the whole grant application.” -MUSC faculty member, 2012

Consultations will be held in the ORD Conference Room (BSB #101C) from 8 am – 5 pm on July 25th and 8 am – 3 pm on July 26th. To prepare for the consultation and maximize feedback, all relevant materials, along with the purpose of your consult (development of new R-type grant, competing renewal, resubmission, new K or F application, foundation grant, etc.…) must be received before Wednesday, July 18th. Relevant materials depend on the purpose of the consult and the stage of development of your proposal. For new R-type proposals, a draft of specific aims, significance, and/or innovation sections is most helpful. For resubmissions, the summary statement, and the draft of introduction (response to reviewers concerns) are most helpful.  For career award (K-type) or fellowship (F-type) applications, a draft of the Specific Aims and Career Plan are most helpful.

Each session will last 45 minutes. Consultations are made on a first come first serve basis so sign up early.  For more information regarding this summer series, please contact Wanda Hutto (huttow@musc.edu or Aisha Vanderhorst (vander@musc.edu).
