Research Project Grant (RPG) Guidelines
RPG retreat’s primary purpose is to assist MUSC researchers improve their proposals for new or renewal competitive grants. Each presenter has a total of 45 minutes—20 for presentation and 25 for discussion. The presentation should summarize the project’s hypothesis and specific aims and provide a brief overview of scientific approach, anticipated results and potential problems. Presenters may download a power point template for their presentation, providing specific tips and suggestions for organizing their presentation.
A primary assigned reviewer initiates the discussion with a biostatistical reviewer providing comments on the study design and data issues. Other members of the review panel may ask questions and offer suggestions. Audience members participate, as their schedule permits, in the discussion with additional questions and suggestions. Presenters are encouraged to invite colleagues and collaborators, who may attend a single presentation or more, as their schedule permits. Presenters are expected to attend the entire retreat as well as reviewers.
Research Development recommends, if possible, the presenter ask a colleague to take detailed notes on their behalf during the discussion period. Panel reviewers are asked to prepare brief notes for the presenters to be sent following the retreat.
