SCRO Submission Process

What is the submission process?

The SCRO registration process is conducted on RedCap. If you wish to fill out a registration form, please go to https://is.gd/MUSC_SCRO_form

For questions, please contact the SCRO Program Manager (Dr. Yashmin Karten, 792-6521; karteny@musc.edu).

As part of the SCRO review process, the investigator will also require to:

  1. take CITI Human Stem Cell Research training (all personnel on the protocol also have to take this training)
  2. Upload an inventory of human embryonic and/or pluripotent stem cell lines using the MUSC SCRO inventory spreadsheet

Storage of human embryonic stem cell lines.

All human embryonic stem cell lines, irrespective of source or origin, that are not actively used in research but held in storage, need to be registered with the SCRO.

When?

Applications must be submitted prior to the initiation of work involving human pluripotent stem cells. The SCRO meets as needed. Submissions should be done in a timely manner as needed to permit:

  • submission of grant proposals
  • release of funds for approved proposals
  • release of approvals from other regulatory committees (IACUC,  IRB, and/or IBC) requiring SCRO approval for their applications involving use of human PSCs.

Periodic (Continuing) Reviews
Unless renewed by Continuing Review, an approved initial application is active for one year. For all approved applications (registrations), the SCRO determine that the research risk is of significant magnitude meriting review more frequently than on an annual basis. Prior to a registration’s expiration date, the SCRO staff will send the Principal Investigator a timely reminder of approval expiration.

To submit a Periodic Review:

1) Go to https://is.gd/MUSC_SCRO_form

2) Click on "Returning" (top right hand corner) and click on "Continue the survey"

3) Enter the RETURN CODE that was auto-generated for you when you originally completed the survey. Click "Submit your Return Code"

4) Make changes to the form  if needed and hit "Submit". A new Return Code will be generated, so please save it for future use.

Amendments
Amendments to registrations must be submitted prior to making a change in personnel, procedures/practices, and facilities.  To amend your SCRO registration, please follow these directions:

1) Go to https://is.gd/MUSC_SCRO_form

2) Click on "Returning" (top right hand corner) and click on "Continue the survey"

3) Enter the RETURN CODE that was auto-generated for you when you originally completed the survey. Click "Submit your Return Code"

4) Make changes to the form and hit "Submit". A new Return Code will be generated, so please save it for future use.

Eligibility

Only MUSC faculty are eligible to submit SCRO applications. Post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and visiting faculty must have the faculty member with whom they are working submit applications covering their work.

What?

MUSC SCRO approval must be obtained prior to using human pluripotent stem cell lines.

For keeping human embryonic stem cell lines in storage only (not actively in use), please also fill out a SCRO application.
